Our philosophy is that learning should be enjoyable, meaningful and developmentally appropriate for each child. By teaching the whole child we are addressing their social, emotional, physical, cognitive and sensory needs. As educators, it is our role to develop children who can critically think and ask meaningful questions for themselves. We believe that children should be active participants in the learning process. This is done by providing children with many opportunities to express themselves, make discoveries, investigate, solve problems and interact with their rich, varied, and stimulating learning environment.
Developing consistent, positive and honest relationships with all our children is our priority. It is important that children’s first experiences away from mum and dad are remembered as safe and happy. Children learn best when they feel safe, secure and valued. For a young child’s brain to develop to it’s full potential they need adults who are present, invested and respond to their needs. We only hire educators who genuinely care for children and love their job. For babies and toddlers to develop linguistically and cognitively they need adults who are present. This means adults who observe, listen, respond and communicate with the child about things they are interested in.
Our Pre-kindergarten room is about creating a solid foundation for future learning. It is a time to develop children’s social and emotional skills, oral language, fine and gross motor skills, phonological awareness and early numeracy skills. From this basis, of a solid foundation in the early years of education, can be built a successful and strong house of learning throughout their later school years.
We believe that the spaces within the early learning centre are the ‘third teacher’ and need to be purposefully structured by the educators to develop children’s basic skills and concepts through active play, utilising interest based and motivating materials which are carefully selected to enhance learning.
Children’s families need to be actively included in developing the learning program and will be encouraged to participate in the early childhood service with open and respectful relationships. We strive to accept and embrace family beliefs, customs, and cultures. We believe that is the differences and individual uniqueness that each person processes that makes us special. As such, different cultures and ways of knowing should not only be accepted but celebrated!
We believe that…
Every child is an individual and has the potential to succeed
Learning should be hands-on, engaging and creative
The centre should be warm, inviting and a stimulating environment
Educators must be adaptable and constantly evaluating their teaching practices and seeking to improve their methods
Educators are only part of a team. They work with students, parents, colleagues, administrators and community members.
Children’s safety is paramount and is to be considered in all that we do
Respect for each other and respect for the environment
Music, Dance and Song. The world is a better place with music!
Being present in the moment. Children need caring adults who are invested, present and respond to their needs
Joy and Wonder. Children feel joy, laughter and happiness in the everyday. Let’s build on this and experience it with them as much as possible!
